A poorly led care home in Radlett has been issued with a warning notice after it failed to improve it's standards in a follow-up inspection by an independent watchdog.

The UK International Nursing Agency Limited Dom Care in Station Road, was rated as 'requires improvement' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The care home provides nursing and personal care to people over 65 - particularly those who suffer from dementia, learning difficulties and other mental health conditions.

In January this year, the CQC carried out an unannounced inspection and found that the care home was 'inadequate'.

They found the service was compromising people's safety by not having enough staff working, not managing medication properly and allowing people to start work before receiving a copy of their criminal record check.

Inspectors also reported that the care home was "not well led" - the staff were unaware about the signs of abuse or how to report them and had not received proper training.

A report published last week on a follow-up inspection carried out in July found that the care home was still not meeting the required standards.

The report states that not only is the service poorly led but "people's health, safety and welfare was not protected, as management systems continued to be ineffective."

Inspectors found that peoples' care records were not reviewed and there were inaccuracies. They viewed one person's record and saw that the waterlow score, which gives an indication of the risk of that person developing a pressure sore, was incorrectly calculated.

It was also found that there were still not enough members of staff to ensure that people were well supported and the staff who did work there had not received up to date training. According to inspectors, the provider had identified that training for staff was needed but this had not been delivered.

The CQC have now issued a warning notice to the care home telling them that they must make improvements - particularly with regards to monitoring and improving the risks relating to the health, safety and welfare of the people who use the service.

The care home have refused to comment on the matter.
