THIS seven-year-old is getting ready to take part in a pageant which her mother hopes will boost her confidence.

Summer Kershaw, of Organ Hall Road, Borehamwood, is getting ready to take part in brand new pageant Miss British Empire on Friday.

The Meryfield School, Borehamwood, says her favourite costume is a yellow cupcake-style dress.

She said: “My favourite part in pageants is when they tell everyone who is in the final.”

The competition includes two rounds – beauty and talent - and the event is being held at the Mercure Hotel, in Watford.

Her talent will be a modern jazz routine she learnt at stage school, dancing to ‘Hero to Zero’, which is featured in Disney’s Hercules.

The pageant is a natural beauty contest, meaning no fake nails, nail varnish or excessive styling is allowed.

When she grows up, she hopes to become a famous movie star – but if that falls through, she hopes to train to become a vet.

She is no stranger to pageants, after being named winner in her age group at last year’s Face of the Globe competition at Elstree Studios.

Her mother Zoe Sherlock says Summer has become best friends with other contestants and competing helps build her confidence.

She said: “I know lots of mums involved say that it helps build their child’s confidence and helps to bring them out of themselves.

“As the only child at home it helps to get her out and about and mingling with other children her age.

“I plan to continue with pageants for as long as Summer wants to.”

The judging panel will feature former Miss Great Britain Liz Fuller.
