A site in Borehamwood that was once used to store ‘town gas’ has now been allocated for housing development by the council.

A meeting between National Grid and the public was held last week Thursday to discuss the removal of gasholders in Station Road to make room for new houses.

Land Regeneration Manager at National Grid, Nadia Dew said: "It is always great to meet with the site’s neighbours. We hope that people found the session and opportunity to ask questions helpful."

She also confirmed that the Coleridge Way to Station Road pedestrian walkway will remain open during the redevelopment.

Councillor Clive Butchins added: "Although it is a shame to lose such a local landmark, I am happy to see the gasholders removed from the site to prepare it for a more useful future." The gasholders are no longer needed due to changes in technology.

The clear up and preparation of the site is due to be underway soon and should to be finished by December 2015.

Anyone with questions about the work can call the project’s community relations team on 0800 073 1047. The line is open from 7am -7pm Monday to Friday and 7am-1pm on Saturday.
