A MAN has been charged after a stolen car was crashed into a house in Borehamwood after being chased by police.

At 8pm on Sunday, August 2 police were in pursuit of a black Audi Q7, which they suspected to have been stolen.

The car, which was seen by witnesses speeding down the A1, was later in collision with a house in Barnet Lane.

The house’s gas supply was damaged by the collision and as a result Transco, a gas transporter company, and Herts Fire and Rescue were called to the scene.

Barnet Lane was closed at the junction with the A1 as well as the immediate area, which was cordoned off while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

The owner, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “I was shocked to come home and find my house like that and because the gas supply has been damaged I’ve had to live with no gas supply for the last few days.

“I have had the surveyor come over to take a look as there is quite a lot of structural damage.”

Francis Colye, 28, of no fixed address, has been charged with eight offences all linking to the incident.

They include dangerous driving, aggravated taking of a vehicle without the owners consent, driving otherwise than in accordance to a licence, driving without insurance and assault with intent to resist arrest.

He appeared at Hatfield Remand Court on Tuesday, where he was remanded in custody. He will now appear at St Albans Crown Court on August 18.
