Aspiring young swimmers, runners and footballers could realise their sporting dreams thanks to a new funding project.

Young sporting stars aged nine to 24-years-old could receive extra support to follow their passions through a new funding initiative from Harrow council.

Whatever the sport, whether it is football, swimming, hockey or running, applications are now open for the Funding Individual Talent, which aims to support Harrow's young people to take part in competitive sports.

It is open to all young people regardless of their background or fitness levels and the one-off grants can be used to purchase equipment or get help with training.

There are three categories of funding that people can apply for, starting with a £50 grant for a young person identified as talented by their schools, clubs or events.

The silver category offers grants of up to £100 for a young person who represents the borough at regional or county level, while gold offers grants of up to £150 for a young person who is a member of the regional or national training squad or is competing at high or national level.

Applications will close on September 30, and will then be assessed by a specialist panel.
