A 1980s pop star surprised care home staff as she helped dish out the honours at their annual care awards ceremony.

Kim Wilde presented awards to staff at Quantum Care homes at the Holiday Inn, in Elstree which included one winner for her dedicated work.

Emma Skuce, administrator at The Mead, in Castleford Close, Borehamwood was awarded the Supporting Homes Award and described by colleagues as: “not just an administrator at The Mead but someone who goes the extra mile within the home.

“She attends and helps with all the events, and loves it when she can put on fancy dress. Emma is a wonderful caring person who is dedicated to her role and worthy of this award.”

Unfortunately Ms Skuce could not be there on the night, so Zara Moore, Deputy Manager of The Mead collected the award on her behalf.

Maria Ball, Chief Executive of Quantum Care said “The Care Awards is an opportunity for us to give people like Emma the recognition and congratulations they deserve for the outstanding contributions they have made, which make a real and positive difference to the lives of our residents.

“We were so pleased to have Kim join us for the night – she put so much effort into making it a really special evening for our staff, and we are so grateful for her support.”

Care workers in the area also heard moving tributes from the evening’s host Sam Cheekoory, Quantum Care’s Director of Operations and enjoyed a three course meal.
