Scooby do may have fought crime but now there’s a new kid on the block – and he’s doing his bit to clear the streets of litter.

There is nothing more frustrating than litterbugs leaving rubbish around the streets, but chocolate Labrador Rolo is working tirelessly to keep the streets of Borehamwood tidy.

The mischievous four-year-old regularly picks up old plastic bottles on his walks through Meadow Park, Borehamwood, with his owner, Sara Brady.

But determined not to bite off more than he can chew, once he has picked up all the bottles his mouth can carry, he cuts his walk short and heads home to Borehamwood.

When he gets there, he unscrews the lid and crunches the bottles down before putting them in the recycling bin – then he goes out to find more.

Mother-of-two Mrs Brady, who lives in Borehamwood, said: “Every time we go for a walk all he wants to do is find the bottles that have been dumped around parks and the street.

“He grabs them with his teeth and once he’s found some, that’s it, his walk is over. All he wants to do is head home to throw them away.

“He knows exactly what to do – he even knows to put the bottles in the recycling bin. He’s a very clever dog.”

At one time, he was collecting 110 bottles per day but now this number varies.

The pooch has quite the following on social networking site Facebook, and even has his own page named Rolo’s Woofy Antics.

Mrs Brady, who is 49, added: “He’s been doing this for years and he’s still going strong, determined to keep the streets of Borehamwood tidy.

“Rolo is naughty and gets up to all sorts but everyone loves him so much. I’m so proud of him – he’s very mischievous but obviously cares a lot about the environment.”
