A school fete stood out against the rest after burn victim and celebrity Katie Piper joined in on the celebrations.

Summerswood Primary School, in Furzehill Road, Borehamwood, hosted ‘Woodfest’ on Friday, July 3.

Katie Piper, an aspiring model who was left blind in one eye after her ex-boyfriend arranged for acid to be thrown into her face, joined in on the festivities.

The day raised £5,000 for the Katie Piper Foundation, a charity which helps burn victims deal with their injuries.

Aretha Waterberg, who is in Year 4, said: “It was a really fun festival with loads of stalls and games to play. The staff worked so hard to provide food for us. All of my family had a brilliant time.”

Isaace Windor-Richards, who is in Year 2, said: “Woodfest was a once in a lifetime experience as I got the chance to perform on stage. I also sumo wrestled with my brother.”

Pupils and their families were entertained by stalls throughout the day, as well as a coconut shy, a cake sale, a magic show and a fire breather.

Children were turned into grizzly tigers or perfect princesses with face paint as they jumped around on the bouncy castle.

The evening included live musical entertainment from a Blondie tribute act and a Michael Jackson impersonator.

Pamela Young, a teacher at Summerswood said, “The event was very family friendly and open to the wider community, with lots of traditional fairground stalls for entertainment.

“Everyone had a really really nice time and it was a very positive community event.

“All of the staff worked hard for the day to be a success and we were able to donate a lot of money to the Katie Piper Foundation.”

They plan to hold Woodfest again next year on Friday, July 1.
