Jaws dropped to the ground as students taking part in a careers programme were given the opportunity to meet a world renowned rugby player first hand.

Sports students from Harrow College were shocked to receive a surprise visit from England’s legendary Rugby Work Cup winning fly-half Jonny Wilkinson as they toured the Sky TV headquarters in West London as part of a careers programme.

The students were taking part in the Sky Academy Careers Lab careers day, aimed at giving 16 to 19-year-olds the chance to take part in practical workplace challenges and learn about careers in sport, media, business and technology.

To the surprise of the students, Sky Academy Ambassador Jonny Wilkinson dropped in to personally meet the excited young learners.

The rugby star shared his career journey during an intimate session with the Harrow College pupils, where they had the opportunity to ask questions about his career highs and lows and what kept him grounded as an international Rugby player.

Intrigued students also asked the rugby star to describe what was going through his mind when he scored the winning drop goal in the last minute of extra time against Australia in the 2003 Rugby World Cup Final.

The former number 10, who was acknowledged as one of the world’s best Rugby Union players, said: ‘’I hope that sharing my personal journey with the students from Sky Academy will help to inspire them and show that anything is possible with passion, hard work and dedication.

“It is important to instil confidence in the students and develop leadership skills which they can apply in different aspects of their lives.”
