Libraries are encouraging young readers to sign up to a reading challenge and take on a world record attempt.

Over the coming months, schoolchildren are being encouraged to fall in love with reading with a summer challenge set by all libraries in the borough.

With the theme of record breaking, one library hopes to break the world record with the highest number of readers signing up to this year’s challenge.

Children can sign up to take part at any library in Harrow but to be part of the record breaking attempt, readers are asked to come along to Kenton Library, In Kenton Lane, from 10am to midday and from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday, July 11.

The summer challenge will see schoolchildren across the borough test their skills as they try to read six books between July 11 and September 12 in the hope of winning an array of prizes.

This year, Harrow’s libraries will also be working with storyteller John Kirk as part of the challenge, who will be performing three show through the summer, including The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, Tales from 1001 Nights and The Sea Monsters.
