Young athletes did the borough proud as three youth teams took homes medals form the London Youth Games.

Competing at the London Youth Games finals at Crystal Palace on July 4 and 5, Harrow’s male basketball and female hockey teams took home gold while the tennis team came away with bronze.

Harrow’s basketball team took on Haringey in the semi-final, in a game that went into extra time, before storming past Westminster in the final to see them lift the title.

Team Manager Luis Goncalves said: “I’m absolutely…I have no words. It’s an amazing feeling.

“The team did what they were supposed to be doing - they had fun and they won a brilliant competition like LYG.

“Coming in, I said before that once you come in anything can happen as there are no favourites, so they come in and gett to the final four - anything can happen.

“We came here with a goal of winning and I’m glad we were able to get it.”

Harrow's Female Hockey team jumped from 16th to first as they defeated defending champions Wandsworth in the final, thanks to a superb individual goal.

Following eight months of competitions between more than 100,000 young Londoners representing 33 boroughs across 31 sports, the borough placed 17th overall in the Jubilee Trophy standings thanks to further bronze medals in the Trampolining and the Male Handball.
