Cake helped to unite a community as both young and old joined together for a bake day.

Schools and nurseries spent a day baking with members, volunteers and staff as part of Jewish Care’s third Great Jewish Bake Day, which aims to raise money for the 7,000 people that use the service.

At Jewish Care's Edgware & Harrow day centre, members decorated cakes with a group of young children from Nagila Nursery, of the Edgware and Distrcit Reform Synagogue.

Gertrude Brenner, 95, said: “At my age it was nice to be able to help Esther decorate the cakes, I felt useful.

“It made me feel really happy to spend this time with the children.”

Elsewhere in Edgware, a giant cupcake mascot went on a road trip visiting schools and shops including Rosh Pinah School for their assembly before their bake sale.

Meanwhile clients at Leonard Sainer Centre for people living with dementia and their families in Edgware, baked cakes and enjoyed tea with friends and family.
