Pupils are leaping with joy after their primary school received its highest ever Ofsted rating in its history.

Staff and students at Grange Primary School, in Welbeck Road, West Harrow, are celebrating after Ofsted praised their school as “happy, hard-working and inclusive” and awarded the school its first ever “good” rating.

The school, which was inspected in June, gained a “good” result in all five areas – pupil achievement, teaching quality, pupil behavior, early years and leadership and management.

The report singled out the head teacher, teachers and assistants for improving the school, stating: “Every effort is made to prepare pupils for life in modern Britain. The school strongly promotes pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development throughout the curriculum.”

Headteacher Annette Szymaniak applauded her staff and the community as a whole for the achievement.

She said: “This report is a huge celebration of what can be achieved when everyone within a community works together to ensure our young people are valued, cared for and challenged to fulfil their dreams.”

Oftsed praised the pupil’s behaviour in class and the playground, adding that they kept workbooks neat and tidy and were polite to fellow pupils and adults.

The report added: “All pupils in all current year groups achieve well from their starting points on entry to the school.

“The school is well placed to improve further.”

The rating is the school’s first ever ‘good’ report, improving from years of reports stating the school required improvement.

Pete Dollimore, Chair of Governors, said: "I am delighted, but not surprised, that Grange is now officially “Good”, and that Ofsted says we are “well placed to improve further”.

“It's incredible to see the care the teachers take to find out what each child needs to make the best of their lives and then skilfully crafting activities to create these great achievements.

“Annette has built up a brilliant team and the school’s future is bright and exciting.”

Cllr Simon Brown, who is responsible for schools, added: “Although it is an area of great social mobility, Annette and her team have brilliantly come to grips with those challenges.”
