Danny Grundy spends his working days driving one of the slowest moving vehicles on the road - a dustbin lorry.

But when his shift is over, he can be found driving sideways or spinning sports cars in a cloud of smoke and dust in 'drifting' competitions.

Now the 24-year-old has taken his place in the "Champion's League" of the sport after performing against some of the Continent's best drifters in the European Series in London on June 13 and 14.

The series sees the world’s top drivers and teams, from 16 nations, compete for the championship title across ten Grand Prix stops.

Danny, of Wilcox Close, Borehamwood, said: “People come from all over Europe where you get the best few drivers to participate – I received the wildcard invitation, I couldn’t believe it.

"It is the Champions League of drifting, I thought I’d never stand a chance with some really big names.”

The adrenaline junkie held his own to finish in the top ten.

Danny says the world of drifting is a far cry from his day job, and it was unlikely he would take his bin lorry for a drift.

He said: “Most of these guys are professionals but I was up at 5am the following day back at work on the lorry, that’s the life of an amateur.

“I’d love to drift the lorry but I don’t think it would be very safe on the road, it is tempting.”

Raising his own money to take part and upgrade his car ready for competition, the wannabe professional said he has “slaved" to get to this position.

He said: “It’s been a tough four years but has been so worth it, my life would be nothing without drifting. The thrills and spills you see in drifting are like no other sport.”
