Teachers, community heroes and a council leader have all been named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Eight people from across north London were made MBEs, OBEs or received British Empire Medals, with one receiving a knighthood.

General Secretary of GMB trade union Paul Kenny, of Stanmore, was made a Knight Bachelor for services to trade unions.

Donna Barratt, headteacher at Glebe Primary School, Harrow, was made an OBE for her services to education.

Joining her was Councillor Claire Kober, leader of Haringey council, who was honoured for services to local government.

Three people from North London were made MBEs with Raymond Barker, chairman of governors at Honilands Primary School, Edmonton, honoured for services to education.

Peter Kessler, chairman of governors at Eden Primary, in Muswell Hill, picked up the award for the same reason, and Harrow woman Rimla Akhtar, chairman of the Muslim Women's Sport Foundation, appointed an MBE for her contribution to equality and diversity.

Regina Allanah received a British Empire Medal for voluntary service to the community in Haringey.

Irene Marianne Wilson also received a BEM for services to the community in Enfield.
