A team cleared up more than five tonnes of rubbish as part of their efforts to spruce up their neighbourhood.

Volunteers from Harrow Civic Residents Association, which covers three roads near the Civic Centre, were taking part in their annual spring clean event, which is known as the Dump Run.

The ‘run’ involves clearing up fly-tipping, picking up litter, and weeding, then ferrying van loads of junk to the town dump.

This year’s event saw the team make ten trips to the dump and dispose of 285kg of rubbish.

For the third year running, the association worked with the RSPCA in Harrow to ensure good quality items did not go to landfill.

Residents association deputy chairman Jo Stephenson said: “The Dump Run is annual event that galvanises the local community.

“Lots of people came out to help this year and we shifted an incredible amount of junk and waste.

“Events like this bring people together and we’d like to see more parts of Harrow follow our lead and get actively involved in improving their neighbourhoods.

“It’s easy to moan about things like rubbish and fly-tipping but we believe in taking action and not sitting around waiting for someone else to clear it up.”

The association represents more than 300 households in Rosslyn Crescent, Frognal Avenue and Woodlands Road.
