Election fever hit a primary school when children voted for a ‘headteacher for the day’.
Mirroring the democratic process of the General Election, schoolchildren from Pinner Wood School nominated themselves for the post of headteacher.
Members of the school council selected three candidates from the 62 anonymous nominations and chose Emily Jones, Amina Asif and Rohan Uppal.
On election day the three candidates spoke to the whole school before children were invited to vote in polling stations, where the election cards, ballot boxes and booths were ready.
Four election officers, Betty Young, Andre Nicholas, Henry Hall and Michael Lo, counted the votes and declared Rohan Uppal to be the winner.
Betty said: “I felt I had a very important role. Everyone decided to vote which was good.”
On May 8, Rohan held assembly, visited all the classes, met with the chairman of governors and asked staff to go outside and play with the children during break.
He said: “I was surprised how much confidence I had. It was very good, but I was very busy.”
