A teenager quit her job after her boss subjected her to a "humiliating and violating" bra search in front of customers.

Naomi Scott, of Aycliffe Road, Borehamwood, who worked at Poundland, in Theobold Street, says she has still not recieved an apology for the incident.

The 17-year-old was manning the checkouts last Sunday when her female supervisor ordered her and her colleagues to pull their bras forward.

They were then ordered to shake the bottom to prove they not hidden any stolen items inside the undergarments.

Miss Scott said: “It was really embarrassing to have to do that in front of all the customers and the other staff members.

“She didn’t touch me in any way but I had to shake it out to prove there weren’t any coins or anything hidden there, which of course there weren't.

“It was humiliating and a bit violating. The other people didn’t look impressed. I actually felt very uncomfortable but in the heat of the moment, it didn’t register.”

Miss Cooper, who has worked in Poundland for the last year, admitted she had kept her mobile phone in her bra – something Poundland says is against company policy.

When she arrived home she told her mother, Hayley Cooper, what happened and quit her job four days later.

The teenager is now unemployed, but is reluctant to work in a shop again.

She added: “I was told when I started that I was allowed my phone on me in case of emergencies.

“I was really angry at first but now I’m not so anymore. My mum was angry and said not to do it anymore unless the police are present.”

A statement from Poundland said: “This was a highly regrettable incident in which neither the colleague nor the supervisor followed company policy.

“There is clear CCTV footage of the incident and we have taken steps to ensure it does not happen again.

“The colleague breached company policy by having a mobile phone on her person. Staff are not allowed mobiles on the shop floor.”
