They might not be eligible to vote for another decade or so – but children came up with a quirky way to have their say.

Pupils at Summerswood Primary School, in Furzehill Road, Borehamwood, held a mini-election on Thursday to coincide with the General Election.

They split into groups and devised their own parties, including The Uni-Fit Party, The Imagination Party, The Splash Party and The Animal Party.

After spending the week campaigning, their classmates cast their votes for their favourite.

Election fever has also gripped Kenilworth Primary School, as pupils devised the Kenilworth Education Party, Co Education and Heloung Everyone's Environment parties.

The three party leaders, Sophie, Tasnim and Bobbi canvassed throughout the week and their classmates are placing their votes today. Results will be announced tomorrow.

And children from Edge Grove School, in Aldenham, nominated party leaders who then delivered a manifesto and were quizzed by their peers. They headed to the polls today.

Edge Grove headteacher Ben Evans said "We were keen to take our children on a journey of political discovery this week as they learn not just about the whole election process but also about democratic values, some of the policies out there and the differences between the various parties."
