Harrow Council has paid tribute to a former Mayor who has died aged 99.

Former Mayor Eric Feakins, who was known to his friends and colleagues as Bobbie, died on the morning of April 3.

First elected in 1964, he served as a Conservative Member for 30 years and served the borough twice as Mayor from 1982 to 1983 and 1993 to 1994.

He represented Kenton from 1964 to 1978 and Kenton West from 1978 to 94 following Boundary Commission changes, along with chairing many of the major committees of the council. He was also made an MBE.

Harrow Mayor Councillor Ajay Maru said: “Bobbie’s incredible accolade and achievements during his lifetime will remain absolutely outstanding.

“Bobbie served the people of Harrow with distinction, including being honoured with the mayoralty on two occasions; a feat unequalled in the history of the borough.

“He is held in the greatest respect by all those who were fortunate to have known him and will be greatly missed by his friends and colleagues and our community in general.”
