A senior Tory urged campaign volunteers to double their efforts as the General Election draws closer.

Conservative Party chairman Grant Shapps met campaigners today as teams from both Hannah David’s and Bob Blackman’s offices took to the streets with leaflets.

Mr Shapps, himself standing in Welwyn Hatfield, urged campaigners to put 120 per cent into their efforts ahead of May’s general election at the Harrow West Conservative office in Rayners Lane this afternoon.

He said: “One of the reasons I am here is to make it clear to people in Harrow West that they have the ability to be in control of the destiny of this country.

“It is a really important fight and it is the future of our country at stake, and it just so happens that Harrow West and Harrow East are pivotal.

“People need to know that their vote will really matter.”

The visit coincides with the launch of a new app as part of Hannah David’s campaign, which hopes to boost engagement.

Mr Shapps added: “I think social media campaigning is really important actually.

“I was the first MP on Twitter as it happens, and nowadays if you’re not using Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and getting the message out there, you’re missing out large parts of the population.”
