Children will be tending their plots after planting seeds to find out fruit and vegetables grow.
Pupils from Summerswood Primary School, in Furzehill Road, Borehamwood, took part in Tesco supermarket's Garden to Fork scheme organised by teacher Zahra Boyd.
Marion Naylor, Borehamwood Tesco community champion, agreed to host the session and taught the four and five-year-olds about how to grow their own fruit, herbs and vegetables.
Children tasted vegetables and fruits before planting their own seeds in the school’s garden, before taking a pot with pea seeds home to grow.
Robbie, four, said: “We learnt about gardening and it was good because I planted a pea, and it was great.”
Four-year-old Amber said: “We planted courgettes, spinach, strawberries and herbs. They will grow and we will eat them for a snack.
“We are going to keep them safe and water them every day.”
The children will each be responsible for looking after their own allotment and harvesting their crop.
Tesco donated £50 worth of gardening materials and resources to the school.
