Teachers sneaked into school after hours to shoot a wacky dance video for charity.

Summerswood Primary School, in Furzehill Road, Borehamwood, surprised pupils and parents with a six-minute clip of staff dancing to music.

The video, which has had 44,000 hits and hundreds of Twitter retweets, has helped raise £1,500 for Comic Relief.

Pupils were shocked when they were shown the footage of their teachers during an assembly on Red Nose Day last Friday.

Foundation stage teacher Zahra Boyd persuaded her colleagues to shoot the dance video with her after watching Uptown Funk.

She said: “The children loved it. Seeing their faces light up when they saw their teachers up on the stage was amazing.

“They couldn’t believe we had done something like this. The build up to this was excellent too.

“We told parents that something special was happening and every day we posted a clue on our Facebook page. There was so much excitement.”

The teachers had two practice sessions with Candice Conway Theatre School before it was officially filmed by David Boakes, Ollie Wiggins and Daniel Urqhart on Friday, March 6.

The film was shown on Friday March 13, when pupils held a non-uniform day to raise money for Comic Relief and underprivileged children.

After the excitement of seeing their teachers dance had worn off, the children took part in various dance workshops learning Bollywood, salsa and flamenco moves.

They then went back to the classroom and took part in activities such as cupcake designing and bookmark making.

And at home time, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and grandparents congregated on the school playground for a dance-a-thon to Grease Lightning.

Ms Boyd added: “It was a huge success in supporting the vision of Comic Relief to create a just world free from poverty.

“The day was wonderful and I’m so proud with what we’ve been able to achieve. It goes to show what you can do when you all come together.”
