A developer hoping to improve a reservoir - if it given permission for flats - is holding an exhibition on the lake's future.

Aldenham Reservoir, which backs onto Aldenham Country Park, in Dagger Lane, Elstree, is leased to Hertfordshire County Council – but that lease is due to expire in September and will not be renewed.

Once the lease expires, control will revert back to land owners Safari Investments.

But in December, property developer Liberty Aldenham stated it would seek to support improvements to the reservoir - should it receive planning permission to build flats in Centennial Park.

The firm is holding two events giving people the chance to find out more about the options for the reservoir.

Aldenham Reservoir is used almost every day by the Verulam Angling Club and Aldenham Sailing Club, as well as visitors to Aldenham Country Park.

Sailing club member Jim Strother, 57, previously told the Borehamwood Times: “It would be a disaster. We absolutely don’t want this place to disappear into thin air.”

Elstree & Borehamwood Green Belt Society has also said it will give up the land behind Cenntenial Park, which is on the greenbelt, if it means saving reservoir.

Ann Goddard, the chairman of the society, said: "With the provisos of course that the agreement is viable and safe legally and that there is no other way to save this well-loved local treasure we are prepared to sacrifice some green belt because of the very special circumstances.”

The first exhibition will be held on Sunday, March 22 at Aldenham Sailing Club, in Aldenham Road, from 11am to 1.30pm.

The second will be held on Tuesday, March 24 at The Fishery Pub, in Watford Road, Elstree, from 3.30pm to 7pm.
