Police are warning residents to be vigilant after a further five attempted phone scams across south west Hertfordshire were reported.

All incidents have taken place since yesterday morning.

In each case, the fraudsters targeted elderly residents.

A woman in her early-80s from Bushey was contacted at around 11am on Tuesday, February 24, and a man in his mid-70s from Bushey was contacted at around 11.30am on the same day.

A woman in her mid-90s from Carpenders Park was also contacted between midday and 1pm on the same day.

Today, a woman in her mid-70s was contacted and another woman, also in her 70s, from Kings Langley was targeted.

In all cases, the fraudsters told their victims that they were calling from Wembley Police and that they had arrested someone about a fraud, and had found clones of the victim's bank cards.

The fraudsters then asked their victims for their banking details at which point they refused, ended the call and reported it to the police.

In total, there have been seven similar incidents reported to the police this month.

Hertfordshire Constabulary has stressed that police or banks would never ask for bank account details or a PIN number over the phone, or ask people to withdraw money and send it to them by any means.

If anyone receives a suspicious phone call they should call the police on 101 and to remember to wait at least five minutes before attempting to make the call or use a different line.
