University students have joined together to protest for women’s right to equal pay.

Around 40 public relations students from University of Westminster’s Harrow campus gathered to protest against the pay gap between men and women in their industry, in which women earn almost 20 per cent less than their male counterparts.

The PR students demostrated their support for equal pay in the country by dressing up as men, wearing ties and carrying briefcases.

Student and organiser Janine Navarro Valdivieso said: “The PR industry is staffed by females, but run by men.

“There are more women than men but still men get higher pay and have better positions in the industry. This is the time to fight for this right. We are not a big organisation, we are students who just want our voice to be heard.”

Amarylis Charitonos, an international student, added: “I have come to London to pursue a PR career and after three years of hard work, my biggest fear is to not be treated fairly while in a job.

“I don't think wearing a tie makes me better - I give my best with one or without one. This is what a feminist really looks like.”
