A new 'gateway' sign for Borehamwood has been temporarily removed after complaints drivers cannot see round it.

The sign, which is one of eight on roads into Borehamwood, was originally located on a grass verge where motorists said it blocked the view when turning right from Stapleton Road into Green Street.

But drivers complained to Hertfordshire County Council, saying that they feared someone would be killed if the sign remained in that location.

Council contractor Ringway has now been asked to temporarily remove the sign and store it at its South Mimms Depot over Christmas.

The situation will be reassessed in the New Year with a view to moving it so it does not block drivers' view.
