Almost 700 people celebrated outside a supermarket to light a menorah.
Members of the Chabad of Borehamwood and Elstree organised the third annual public menorah lighting outside Tesco on Shenley Road , Borehamwood.
Hundreds of people joined in the lighting ceremony as Town Mayor Councillor Pat Strack lit the leading candle, followed by various rabbis and councillors.
Rabbi Plancey spoke about the significance of the festival of Hanukkah and bringing light into the world, while the community enjoyed free doughnuts and chocolate coins.
Musicians Oliver Assor, Eli Brill and Joel Felsentein performed to the crowd, giving people the opportunity to dance and take pictures with The Dreidelman.
Leah Hoch, who helped organise the event, said: "With music, singing and a festive atmosphere, it was a celebration enjoyed by all."
