New gateway signs commemorating a century of filmmaking have been unveiled.
In a ceremony on Monday, Hertsmere Mayor Councillor Carey Keates, his wife Shirley and town mayor Pat Strack unveiled one of eight new entrance signs.
Each of the new signs, provided by Hertfordshire County Council with designs from Elstree Screen Heritage, are located at the entrance or gateway points to Elstree and Borehamwood and use the artwork featured at the town’s railway station.
Cllr Keates said: “You’ll see these at every entrance to Elstree and Borehamwood. They look fantastic.”
The sgns have been installed following advice and guidance from Mark Goodyear, Herts Highways' representative on the board of the First Impressions project, which aims to improve the town’s appearance.
Through the use of banners, plaque panels, stars in the pavement and now the new gateway signs, the project has been reminding film-lovers that Elstree Studios remains a major part of the UK’s media industry.
