A 27-year-old was killed in June when his motorbike collided with a car in an Elstree street.

Joe Paul, who lived in London, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash opposite North Medburn Farm in Watling Street, after his red Honda motorcycle collided with a black Mercedes SLK.

Mr Paul's parents said: "We’ve been touched by the comments people have said to us about their memories of Joe and how they described him as a kind and genuine person.

"He was a real live wire and someone who had a real lust for life. He was exuberant in everything he did and we were often telling him he not only burnt the candle at both ends but also the middle."

Witnesses reported seeing a man, 33-year-old John Moores, pull both Mr Paul and the female driver of the Mercedes away from the burning vehicles.

Also in June, despite rain washing out families day, this year’s Borehamwood civic festival was hailed as a big success.

The 58th annual festival kicked off with a film-themed carnival parade through Borehamwood with a display of bright colours and music.

Other highlights of the two-week festival included a classic car show, the 10K and family fun run and the open day at the new police station.

In Elstree, pub owners feared they may be forced to shut up shop after road closures significantly reduced their trade.

Watford Road, in Elstree, was closed off at the beginning of the month, leaving The Fishery pub with a fall in takings of 25 per cent.

Eastenders secured its future in Borehamwood after plans for the extension of the set were approved by Hertsmere Borough Council.

The new set will be built in three phases, with improvements including the addition of a gym and restaurant, and a new access entrance at Eldon Avenue.
