Staff and governors at a primary school have said their recent Ofsted report reflects their ambition for the school.

Kenilworth School, in Kenilworth Drive, Borehamwood, achieved the second highest ‘good’ rating, with an ‘outstanding’ grade for its early years teaching, in its recent Ofsted inspection, held on November 6 and 7.

The inspection report mentions good teaching, good leadership and excellent behaviour, along with commenting on how well the early years team develop social and emotional development as well as vocabulary and speaking skills.

It adds development is above average in reading and writing and average in mathematics, while disadvantaged pupils and those who are disabled or have special educational needs are given work at the right level of difficulty.

However, it has not achieved overall status as the report states that teachers do not always challenge the more-able pupils to make the best possible progress, and marking does not always help pupils improve their work.

Headteacher Samantha Jayasuriya said: “This school is a true community school. There is a high level of respect and tolerance throughout the school. Everyone works well with each other.

“The grading reflects the drive and ambition to aim high which comes from all groups, pupils, staff, governors and parents. I am particularly proud of the good achievement for all groups.

“No matter what a child’s background, ability or culture, children do well in our school. Our creative approaches make a difference and Ofsted has validated the work we do and our positive approach to learning.”
