Students have taken part in two special assemblies to celebrate the history of a former school.

To mark the 75th anniversary of the opening of Hillside School - which stood on the site of Yavneh College site, in Hillside Avenue, Borehamwood, from 1939 to 2000 - pupils at the college took part in local history enrichment programme.

Around 20 pupils took on a research project to find out about what life was like in the old school and consider how much education changed.

Pupils spent two weeks at Borehamwood Library researching photos, old newsletters, maps and school reports, as well as one week in the Borehamwood Museum where they interviewed a panel of ex-students, staff and historian Paul Welsh.

The school held a series of assemblies this morning for pupils as well as erecting a museum style display in the foyer presenting pupils work from the project.

Headteacher Spencer Lewis said: “This has been a very exciting project allowing Yavneh College pupils to actively engage with the local community in a very meaningful way.

“Yavneh College is immensely proud to occupy this site in Borehamwood ensuring that the proud tradition of educational excellence continues long into the future.”
