Young choristers from three schools sang for the whole country when they performed for Children in Need.

A choir made up of 100 students from Hertswood Academy, Kenilworth Primary School and Cowley Hill Primary School sang during Friday night’s annual live Children in Need show on BBC.

Thousands of people across the country saw the choir perform at Elstree Studios, where the live event took place, leading choirs across the UK and closing the performance.

Hertswood headteacher Peter Gillett said: “We are immensely proud of all the students who took part in the choir and helped raise money for a tremendous cause.

“They all really enjoyed themselves.”

Students at Hertswood Academy also hosted charity events throughout the week, raising a total of £1,500 for the charity.

Assistant headteacher Laura Edgar said: “It was a fabulous day. They were so overwrought to start with and then they settled down into it and had a great time. They just threw themselves into it.”

Staff and parents from each of the three schools joined the children at the studios and supervised the pupils backstage.

Kenilworth School headteacher Samantha Jayasuriya said: “They all had an amazing time and they were so proud to represent the school on that stage.

“I am extremely proud of them and those who talked in our assembly this morning about their feelings of taking part in the show.

“They realise they were taking part in an event that would mean a lot to many other children in the country, and it made them realise how important what they were doing was in terms of the charity and raising money for those children in need.”
