A group of 65 students got to feel like Hollywood stars for the day when they were given a tour of Elstree Studios.

The group from Ernst Kästner Real-Schüle in Offenburg, Borehamwood’s German twin town, called in at Elstree Studios while visiting London as part of a four-day trip organised with the Borehamwood and Elstree Twin Town Association.

Howard Berry, from Hertfordshire University gave a talk on the history of film making in Borehamwood, talking through the life and history of the Film studios that existed in the town over the last 100 years.

Managing director of Elstree Studios Roger Morris also welcomed the group to the studios, and talked about current productions being made at the studios, while John Schoonraad from Life-cast spoke about making plaster casts prosthetics for use in films.

After the presentations, Jule Schäfer, 15, said she wasn’t aware that Borehamwood had such a famous and well established film studios, adding that visiting a place where so many famous actors had worked was “cool”.

Andrew Grady, vice chairman of the Borehamwood and Elstree Twin Town Association, said: “This was the second year a school from Offenburg visited the town, we are pleased to welcome them to sample some of the towns amazing film history, especially in this the centenary year of film making in Borehamwood."
