A man who volunteers as a policeman has been awarded for his public service.
Special constable Andrew Lobel, who is based at Borehamwood Police station, won the Special Constabulary Officer of the Year award at The Hertfordshire Constabulary Annual Awards Ceremony last week.
Mr Lobel, an “outstanding” officer, was awarded for his commitment and dedication to the job and his contribution to the Hertsmere Community Safety Partnership.
The event, which was attended by more than 100 officers, was held in Letchworth Garden City last Thursday.
It was hosted by Chief Constable Andy Bliss, and was attended by police and crime commissioner David Lloyd and High Sheriff of Hertfordshire Fergus McMullen.
Police and crime commissioner David Lloyd said: “I believe that the police alone are not nearly as effective as when they have the support of ordinary citizens who selflessly step into an extraordinary task for the good of their communities.
“Volunteering is rewarding and valuable and I applaud, not just the winners of these awards, but all those who volunteer their own time to help keep this county so safe.”
