  • Stephen K Amos: Welcome to My World

Borehamwood Times:

The feel-good maestro hits the road with his brand new show. He’s a deep-thinking, problem-spotting and question-asking sort of gentleman, and Mr Amos believes the time is nigh to invite the public to meet this inner friend of his. He’s got some questions and concerns, such as ‘why is the world reacting to Russia’s Ukraine invasion as it is?’ and ‘why are people really voting for UKIP?’, and to be honest is getting a little peeved that people in 2014 are still reluctant to talk about racial and sexual inequality – at dinner parties anyway. He’s been expecting you.

  • A Nice Cup of Tea

Borehamwood Times: Making and drinking a cup of tea reduces stress levels, research suggests

If you’re supping on a nice cuppa while you’re reading this, the chances are you’re not the only one - apparently, someone makes a cup of tea every 4.8 seconds in the UK. This talk by Russell Bowes for the Edgware and District National Trust Centre looks at the history of England’s national drink, from its origins in the foothills of the Himalayas, tracing its journey via the Japanese Tea Ceremony and the decks of the Cutty Sark, to the Victorian Temperance Movement and the modern tea bag. One lump or two?

St Lawrence Church Hall, Whitchurch Lane, Edgware, October 15, 8pm. Details: edgwarentc.btik.com
