A composting site has been closed after it was served with a notice to improve services.

The Reviva Composting site, in Elstree Hill South, Elstree, was served an enforcement notice from the Environment Agency today after complaints that the site was not effectively getting rid of its waste.

One resident, who lives near the site, contacted the Borehamwood Times to say the site had been closed for three weeks and was giving off a bad smell.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: “The notice does not suspend their permit to operate, but it does limit the activities that can be carried out, including taking in waste, until the conditions have been complied with. The notice contains various conditions including removal of waste.

“Therefore the site will still be seen to be operating but they will not be accepting more waste.”
