More than £40,000 has been shared across community organisations in Hertsmere.

Hertsmere Borough Council’s grants panel has allocated a total of £42,253 to 24 community and voluntary organisations that serve the Hertsmere area.

Voluntary and community groups can apply for one-off community grants, of up to £3,000, for a specific project or purchase. Money can be used to pay for equipment, training, publicity materials, upgrading facilities or venue hire.

Councillor Brenda Batten, chair of the council’s community grants panel, said: "Although our budgets continue to be stretched we are still funding local community and voluntary organisations which offer valuable and sometimes vital services to our residents.

"Our aim is to continue to help local groups help themselves by providing pump-priming grants so they can develop their own services which go a long way in keeping our communities happy and healthy."

Groups that have benefited recently from Hertsmere’s grant scheme include the Elstree and Borehamwood museum and the Borehamwood foodbank.
