Former Team GB Olympic and Commonwealth Games swimmers put a Borehamwood team through their paces.

Joanne Jackson and Grant Turner joined the Hertsmere Flyers swimming team, who train at The Venue in Borehamwood, to provide two training sessions.

The masterclasses included drills not usually done by the Flyers, but which are normal training for Olympic swimmers, plus a series of relays including participation by both professionals.

The first session involved 30 swimmers from junior squads, and was followed by a question and answer session in which all swimmers got to ask Joanne and Grant questions, pose for photos and get autographs.

The two senior squads then jumped straight back in for their training session with the Team GB stars.

Speaking after the event, Joanne Jackson said: “I was impressed with the dedication, effort and commitment of the swimmers during the two sessions. They were a pleasure to teach and can't wait to come back.”

Kevin Fleet, area manager for the leisure centre, said: “It is very exciting to be welcoming two swimming heroes here to The Venue in Borehamwood. The Flyers are a great club and to get advice from two Olympic swimmers is going to be hugely beneficial to club members.”
