A foodbank celebrated a successful summer with a series of family lunches.

Every Wednesday during August, the Borehamwood Foodbank held a Family Lunch event to feed families who were struggling to feed their children through the school holidays.

The group provided hot lunches, crafts and games for adults and children, and a food pack for the families to take away with them.

Nearby allotments donated fresh food, while supermarkets also contributed food and several local bakers donated bread for the families to take away.

Each week was based on a different theme, including butterflies and beasts and a picnic in the park with giant games.

The last lunch was a seaside theme with crafts and fish and chips, which was enjoyed by all.

Project co-ordinator Kim Gray said: “As you can see, the lunches were a huge success and really appreciated by all those who attended.

“We feel it's really important to provide an opportunity for local family's to come together, have some fun and sit down for a family meal.”
