Nervous 16-year-olds tore open their envelopes in anticipation this morning to find out their GCSE results.

After sitting their exams earlier this year, pupils across Borehamwood have had an agonising wait to find out their all-important grades.

Yavneh College, in Hillside Avenue, received yet another batch of successful exam results this year, with 83 per cent of students receiving grades A* to C.

Headteacher Spencer Lewis said: “Yavneh College pupils have done so well in their GCSEs and I am very proud of them all. I am also very grateful to the dedicated team of teachers who work so hard in preparing the pupils for their examinations.

“These grades together with last week’s exceptional A Level results go to show that Yavneh College truly is an outstanding school.”

Yavneh student Asher Goldberg, 16, received one A* and nine As, and said: “It’s been a weight off my shoulders. I feel if I had worked harder, I could have done much better but GCSEs are more like a memory test. I’m really pleased, and my parents are really happy for me.”

Fellow high achiever Josh Tray, also 16, said he was happy after matching his older sister’s results with nine A*s and one A grade.

He added: “I’m more relieved than pleased. I felt that I worked just hard enough to get the results I did, and I didn’t stress myself out about any of it which was good.”

Students at Hertswood Academy equally excelled, as the school received its highest number of A and A* grades in its history, despite national averages for the top grades being down.

Head teacher Peter Gillett said: “All I can say is it’s down to the hard work from both students and staff, and the support from parents. The results have been great across the board and we are extremely proud of all our students.”

Results have gone up a whopping 16% over the last two years, with Mollie Georgiou beating the school record by two after gaining seven A*s.

Three other students equalled the previous record of five A*s, which hasn’t been touched for six years- Jordan Scammell, Hannah Whitney and Charlie Hart.

One student, Rebecca Armistead who gained four A*s and four As, decided to channel The Apprentice this morning to calm her nerves. She said: “All I kept thinking was that Alan Sugar doesn’t have of these kinds of qualifications so it will be fine no matter what happens.

“I really didn’t think I would get these results, I can’t believe it.”
