Home owners have been reminded to check their fire alarms following a dishwasher fire this weekend.
Borehamwood fire station's green watch was called to a fire in The Campions, Borehamwood, at around 2.15am on Sunday morning.
An elderly lady and her adult daughter had been woken up by one of their two smoke detectors sounding and alerted the emergency services.
The fire, which was confined to the dishwasher, was quickly dealt with by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, while the rest of the property was cleared of smoke.
As the second smoke alarm had not sounded, this was also replaced.
During the day on Sunday, watch commander Jim Moran requested that White Watch return to the road to complete a ‘quick strike’- alerting all residents for the need of a working smoke alarm.
