Brownie guides enjoyed a bit of fun in the sun as they celebrated their organisation's 100th anniversary.

Girls from across Borehamwood attended a party in Schopwick Place, Elstree to mark the Big Brownie Birthday at the weekend.

Brownies enjoyed a quiz in the orchard, camp fire songs and Maypole dancing, along with the opportunity to view the exhibition of past Brownie photographs and memorabilia.

Deputy Lord Lieutenant Stuart Nagler welcomed all to enjoy the afternoon, which was organised by Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council.

The event was well attended, including the Mayor of Hertsmere Carey Keates and Hertsmere Borough Council leader Councillor Morris Bright, along with past and present leaders of the Brownies, Guides and Scouts.

Mayor Councillor Pat Strack, who helped organise the event, said: “I would like to thank all those who helped to make the Brownie Centenary Celebrations at Schopwick so momentous. Many District Trefoil Guild members, Brownie leaders, past leaders Brownies and their parents enjoyed the sunny afternoon of activities and entertainment."

There are currently five Brownie packs in the town but more volunteers are wanted to set up new groups.

To start a pack, a community needs at least two 18 to 65 year old women willing to volunteer to be leaders and at least eight 7 to 10 year olds wanting to be Brownies.

District commissioner Penelope Polins said: “We would dearly love to see new packs opening at our various places of worship and also in the areas that we don't currently cover on the Northern side of town. Across the UK there are currently 50,000 on the national waiting list and we would love to try and help Borehamwood and Elstree make a dent in that number."
