A church invited previous clergymen to help it celebrate a major anniversary.

Christ Church, in Watling Street, Radlett, has been celebrating its 150th anniversary with the return of several former members of the clergy over the past few months.

The Right Reverend Dr Alan Smith, the Bishop of St Albans, reminded everyone during his service that Christ Church had been built at a time when the Victorians had built many new churches, schools, libraries and railways.

Bishop Alan also blessed a bespoke oak pedestal and a colourful banner presented to the church to commemorate the historic occasion.

At the end of the service, he congratulated chorister Chas Burton on his 80-year membership of the Christ Church Choir.

Guests enjoyed music from the Borehamwood Brass Band while enjoying their picnics or the barbecue.

Team Rector the Reverend Javaid Iqbal thanked the organising committee headed by Brian Davies for the week of activities that preceded the celebration service.

He added: “Our parish has much to thank God for and I am now consulting parishioners on how we should demonstrate our gratitude by doing something for others less fortunate."

The consultation ends in September.
