A theatre manager has resigned after almost four years in the job.

The Ark Theatre manager Tom Lagden formally announced his departure to friends and colleagues in a statement today.

He said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you all and I very much hope to work with you again elsewhere, and that with your support The Ark Community Theatre Borehamwood can go from strength to strength.”

Since Mr Lagden joined in February 2011, The Ark Theatre, in Thrift Farm Lane, has played host to 254 performances and over 60 community sessions and events - welcoming more than 30,000 people through the doors.

He added: “It has been a challenging yet enjoyable three and a half years but at the conclusion of the spring/summer 2014 season, The Ark’s most successful to date, and as it enters a period of change with a potential new location and funding model, the time is right to pursue new opportunities.”

Joy Cox will step in following his departure until a new manager can be found.

We have lost a good man who made the ARK profitable. I cannot envisage the new ark if it is built being a magnet for professional performers. Our film awards will be seeking a new venue and we will not consider the new Ark as it is too far from the Town.

Hopefully at some stage a new theatre will be built closer to the Town

Sorry to hear this news. Tom has been a brilliant and enthusiastic manager of our community theatre. My family have been to many of the shows and Tom was always there, welcoming us in. I am left with the feeling that he hasn't been backed by people who are following a different agenda.
My worry is that the new theatre won't be as good the one they're going to knock down.

Tom has been fantastic and done wonderful things for the Ark Theatre and our Community. I wish him all the best in his future career. We will miss his important contribution and input into the Arts at Hertsmere

Tom he is a very special person he got the Ark into great shape for the community and it was very much appreciated by us. I hope very much that he will be back to manage any theater that we will build for the community in the coming year ahead.
Good luck with whatever you do from now and until you are back in Borehamwood.
