School fundraisers have received a prestigious award for their work volunteering in the Jewish community.

A group of 38 students from Yavneh College, in Hillside Avenue, Borehamwood, were presented with the award at the Yoni Jesner Awards ceremony, which was set up in memory of a 19-year-old who was killed in Israel while volunteering.

The ceremony took place last Thursday with guests of honour including the Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis and Marsha Gladstone, Director of the Yoni Jesner Foundation.

Guests were invited to participate in a number of activities, including making origami cranes or writing postcards to Israeli soldiers whose lives have been affected by their experience of conflict.

More than 400 people attended the ceremony, which celebrated the volunteering efforts of 193 people aged between 11 and 14.
