The closure of the Elstree recycling centre is not a ‘done deal’, Hertfordshire County Council has assured councillors fighting to save the site.
Councillors Harvey Cohen, Morris Bright and Caroline Clapper met three county council officers and a representative from contractor AmeyCespa to discuss the cost of running the Elstree recycling centre, off Allum Lane.
Officers assured the councillors that the closure is not a ‘done deal’ and will look at the costs involved in reducing the opening hours of the site in line with other centres in the county, as opposed to its closure.
Cllr Bright said: “We have to find a way of saving the service. Signing the petition is important to show support, but it’s not enough. What we want is for people to fill in the online form and give their opinions to the council.
“There is time for people to sit down and work out some alternative ideas for how to save the site.”
The official petition to save the site now has more than 730 signatures.
