A former World Light heavyweight champion wowed pupils of a boxing club at an awards ceremony.

John Conteh, who also won BBC’s Superstars, presented hard-earned awards to children at the Box Cleva scheme of Borehamwood.

Also in attendance to present the awards were Box Cleva trainer and Commonwealth games gold medallist Sean Murphy, group manager Tony Morrison and Box Cleva Trustee and data protection officer Bill Stanton.

Mr Conteh, a patron of Box Cleva, said: “This great scheme has brought so many children off the streets to teach them discipline and respect for themselves and the community at large - congratulations to all involved."

Chairman Bob Williams thanked everybody for all their continued support throughout the project, including Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service, Hertsmere Borough Council and community safety partners.
