Will it be the rousing theme songs from Star Wars or Indiana Jones? The nostalgic pop refrains of Cliff Richard’s Summer Holiday? Or the familiar strains of the EastEnders or On the Buses themes?

The musical programme for BBC Elstree Concert Band’s Music from the Movies concert, part of the 100 Years of Elstree Studios celebrations, is strictly under wraps until the night, but you can be sure you’ll be in for a feast of film and television classics.

“There will be a lot of well-known hits from the big screen and your TV screen, all linked to Elstree Studios,“ says the band’s general manager, Georgina Benton. “It’s going to be a real mixture of entertainment and show business – with a bit of murder and intrigue in there as well.“

As well as the songs to be performed by the band, the evening will also include two sing-alongs, so you are encouraged to go along in good voice.

The BBC Elstree Concert Band, 45 amateur musicians made up of BBC staff, gave its first public performance in July 1987 at the BBC’s Elstree Studios and still regards Elstree and Borehamwood as its spiritual home, making this concert, presented in association with Elstree Screen Heritage, a very special event for the band’s members to take part in, especially those who live in the area themselves.

“We’re delighted to be part of the festivities," continues Georgina, from Muswell Hill. “It’s lovely to be working on such a fantastic project.

“We love coming to Elstree, it’s been fantastic for us to have had such a close association with the area over the years and we very much enjoy coming back."
