The director behind a London bakery chain says he is looking forward to opening a new branch in Borehamwood.

Mr Baker is planning to open its newest outlet in Shenley Road, Borehamwood, later this year.

Along with fresh bread and pastries, an in-store cafe will also serve coffee, sandwiches and salads, sushi, pizza and pasta.

The company, which currently has a branch in Hendon, hopes the forthcoming opening will bring new trade to the Borehamwood high street.

Director David Shamash said: “Considering the success Mr Baker has enjoyed in Hendon, needless to say such a thriving establishment in Borehamwood will provide much-needed rejuvenation to an area that is currently home to businesses that have been shut down for the past eight years.

“We are confident that through the establishment of another branch of Mr Baker, Borehamwood and the surrounding area will benefit from a welcome revival and rejuvenation of commerce and will be well and gratefully received by members of the public.”

Not everyone has welcomed the new business. Some traders and members of the public have criticised the company for allegedly undertaking work at the premises at 33 and 35 Shenley Road before receiving planning permission.

Mr Shamash added: “There has been some recent delay in proceedings, however we are working hand in hand with the local authority to ensure that all planning and concept details are ironed out to make way for a speedy and successful opening.”

A planning application has now been submitted to the council.

Residents and traders of Shenley Road are now being given the opportunity to add their comments on the applications before a decision is made by July 14.
